Duchy 3

Okehampton 3

WITH a couple of wins from the pre-season friendlies in the weeks leading up to the first league match, Okehampton went into the game with confidence, knowing that a win or draw would be a good achievement.

However it was a shaky start, with the home team scoring early on. Okehampton did not let that phase them, with an almost immediate comeback and great work from Nick Luxton, Sam Whalley, Brett Lawson and Jack Watson. A bombardment of shots flooded the Duchy keeper and eventually a goal came from Ross Davidson, bagging his first goal for the men’s firsts.

Okehampton men’s momentum continued with flowing passes throughout the whole team. Another goal came from Nick Luxton when he smashed one home. The first half finished with Oke in the lead.

After a team talk from the captain Josh Speak, Okehampton went into the second half as if the score was 0-0 again. George Morgan in goal was called upon to perform some great saves and stop a number of short corners.

The defence of Oke man of the match James Rogers, Rob Hall, Simon Bourne and Jayden Reed blended together to cut out any sign of a counter attack from Duchy.

The hard work of Okehampton soon paid off with a precision goal from Sam, after some good play coming through Joff Stephens and the rest of the midfield.

The 3-1 lead should have sealed the result, but Okehampton”s momentum slackened resulting in two goals from Duchy. The umpire’s whistle blew and the first league game ended with a draw.

This was a game that Okehampton should have won, but still a result they are satisfied with.
