OKEHAMPTON MEN’S FIRSTS 4
TRURO A MEN 3
THE home side were taken by surprise as the Cornish team got out of the blocks strongly, pressing forward and challenging the home defences.
However, Okehampton kept their cool and used their bench well to repel the pressure and force the game back onto their opponents. This paid off as in the 25th minute Luxton broke through putting Okehampton into the lead.
Returning players enabled a few positional changes for Oke and as Liversidge took advantage of his role in midfield, he opened up the play once again, releasing Luxton to convert another.
A defensive error from Truro allowed Chapman to intercept and drive into the circle, scoring the third for the home side just before the break.
Truro came out a different side for the second half, built pressure on the Oke defence and pulled two goals back with a quarter of the game still to go, producing a tense ending to the game. Okehampton regrouped, protected the ball well and created a number of golden opportunities but were unable to convert their pressure. As the frustration grew, the ball was soon at the other end of the pitch, where a penalty corner led to a goal for Truro making it 3-3.
The tempo of the game raised again and Okehampton immediately worked the ball up the pitch, Paterson played a perfectly weighted ball through to Morgan to score the winning goal for Okehampton. The win takes the men up to second place in the league.
