OKEHAMPTON Hockey Club U12 girls travelled to Exeter to play in the next  round of the Devon league on Sunday.

Their first match was played in wet and windy conditions against a strong ISCA team.

The Oke girls took a while to settle but strong tackling from captain Molly Cooper and determined play from centre half Emelia Bazeley kept them in the game.  Despite some excellent saves from the Oke keeper Lucy Wiseman, ISCA won by three goals.

The match against Dart was much more evenly matched with midfielder Lucinda Aveyard leading the Oke attack. Oke were unlucky not to score and the game ended in a goal-less draw.

The Oke team were growing in confidence when they took on Exe.

With a  change in defensive formation full backs Abbie Luxton and Hannah Woodhams cut out the Exe attack but the Oke forwards could not convert their pressure into points and the game resulted in another 0-0 draw.

The final match against Ottery saw the Oke girls hungry for goals piling the pressure on the Otters' defence.

It was not long before Annie Strawbridge skilfully found the back of the net for Oke's first goal.

Grace James was unlucky not to add to the score line when a well struck shot on goal was saved on the line.

Okehampton's final goal came when Beth Luxton picked up a lovely cross in front of the goal and passed to Rosie Higgs who slotted the ball into the goal.
