Dart ladies thirds 1
Okehampton ladies seconds 3
THIS is the first season that Okehampton Columbines have entered a second team in the hockey league.
In a closely fought match Okehampton were on top for most of the first half but were taken by surprise when Dart scored from their first attack. This put Oke on the back foot and they lost some of their spark. Midfielders, Viv Weatherington and Lottie Rademaker, provided strong support for attacker, Winnie Rademaker, who, with her signature reverse stick strike, equalised the match just before half time.
During the second half, Katie Adams and Hannah Whiteley worked the ball out of defence to feed their attack but the match became scrappy with both sides desperate to secure a win.
Jenny Humphrey in goal for the visitors made two excellent saves to prevent Dart from scoring.
Rochelle Hillier and Anna Cherrington worked tirelessly with captain Nicola Stoneman leading by example for Oke and spurring on the team to go for the win.
Eventually Okehampton got the breakthrough with a well-worked combination between Lottie and forwards Emma Wiseman and Grace Thorp, who set up Molly Petherbridge to tap the ball in to give Okehampton the lead. The win was secured for Okehampton when a quickly taken free hit found Grace in space in the circle who passed to Molly who again made no mistake in front of goal.
n This week Oke ladies seconds are at home against Ashmoor.
