Torbay ladies’ seconds 2
Okehampton ladies’ seconds 7
DESPITE losing the toss, Okehampton seconds launched straight into Torquay’s half and worked together, quickly dominating the pitch.
After a tricky few minutes, Oke pushed the ball into the attacking D, with Alex Collins taking a shot on goal. This was deflected, but Rachel Adams picked up the rebound and scored to put them one up, Oke kept on looking for a second with some neat play across the middle from Rochelle Woollacott and Lucy Wiseman. However, Torquay broke through a gap in Oke’s defence and to score a goal.
Soon after, despite heroic efforts from defenders Carol Taylor and Debbie Pritchard, Torquay slipped in another goal. The first half ended with Torquay in a 2-1 lead.
The visitors left the pitch frustrated at their lack of progress, but Oke started the second half ready to fight for a win. And fight they did - with a determination that culminated in slicker passing, swifter runs and closer marking, leaving Torquay unable to play the game they wanted.
This new found mojo was quickly converted into a goal, with Emma taking the ball down and crossing it into Alex to shoot, equalising the score.
Goal number three followed with player of the match Elsa Frangleton slipping the ball to Emma Wiseman to smash into the goal. Now in the lead, the Oke team executed some lovely play, with Sophia Marshall and Zoe Curtis carrying the ball superbly up and down the wings.
Pressure from the midfielders forced the ball up into the attacking half where Lucy Wiseman executed a superb interception and then dribbled the ball down to the goal line where she scored expertly from an awkward angle.
Oke kept up this momentum to score another goal by Alex Collins followed by two more by Rachel Adams, assisted by defender Anna Luxton.
