Plym Valley ladies 4
Okehampton ladies 3
OKEHAMPTON came out strong and quickly left Plym Valley on the back foot and unable to stop the determined hockey midfield of Hannah Whiteley, Louise Weller and Ailsa Gibb as they passed the ball up the pitch which led to a short corner.
A solid ball fed from Joey Drake to Jo Moppett on the top of the D completed a perfect one-two with captain Kim Davey to slot the ball neatly into the goal. A second goal soon followed scored by captain Davey who hit the ball with strength and speed past the Plym Valley defence.
Plym Valley fought back as they tackled their way back through the defence of Joey, Sarah Jones and Amanda Sim which resulted in a short corner. With a fast ball which found their strong player at the top of the D they tried to smash the ball into the bottom right of the goal but on two occasions this found the stick of player of the match Nicola Stoneman, who stopped the ball on the goal line.
Before the end of the first half Oke scored a third when Carol Taylor passed to Molly Petherbridge, who turned and found Moppett, who skilfully beat the goalie on a one on one situation.
Plym Valley came out for the second half with fighting spirit and put Oke on the back foot. They moved their stronger players around which meant they could attack in numbers. After Plym Valley were able to score two short corners and two fast breaks Okehampton tried to fight back but was unable to make the hard work count.
