BOTH hockey teams started a little rustily and for some time the ball travelled around the pitch without any sharpness but play was evenly spread.
After 15 minutes into the game a well taken short corner by Joey Drake led to a firm strike from Jo Moppett which cracked past the goalie. This was followed by a second goal from Moppett, who led many attacks by demonstrating excellent ball control with exceptional speed.
Tavistock came back, snatching a ball sent by a defender across the circle and giving the keeper no chance to cover.
The first half ended at 2-1 to the home side.
In the second half the pace picked up and there were many close runs at both ends.
Viv Weatherington, playing in goal for Oke, was their player of the match and she made several superb saves as Tavistock piled on the pressure.
Close marking by the Okehampton defence kept most of the danger under control as several short corners were taken. However, it was the undaunted running of Carol Taylor and Breize Read that took the sting out of the short corners to prevent Tavistock scoring.
Oke's Lesley Bingham kept Tavistock on their toes with her fast one touch passes and with Moppett and Kim Davey seizing every chance for attack. Tara Davidson had a good game on the left and pushed the ball up with control and determination. Twice Bingham got in the right position at the right time and tapped the ball past the defence to put Okehampton 4-1 up.
The play was more balanced than the score would indicate and it was no surprise when Tavistock came back to score following a skirmish in the circle, right on the goal line.
As the play moved back and forth Jo Moppett had her feet taken out from under her by the frantic Tavistock goalie. Okehampton were unable to convert the penalty flick.
A last goal was scored by Kim Davey for Okehampton just before the final whistle went.
