Okehampton 2
Bodmin 2
OKEHAMPTON came into the game languishing in 10th on goal difference, whilst their opponents, Bodmin, came into it in third place.
The game began brightly for Oke with Mark Parsons winning the ball off the Bodmin defence from kick off and winning a short corner. From the resulting set piece Parsons fired in to give the home side the lead.
The game continued to go Oke’s way as they pressed a shaky Bodmin defence, with little threat from the visiting attack. However, the away side eventually began to mount the pressure. Joff Stephens won the ball for Oke inside their 25 yard line and drove forward with only one man to beat; unfortunately for Oke he could not team mate Ross Davidson with the ball and the attack petered out.
As the match progressed Okehampton became sloppy with balls going through their middle; the Bodmin centre back passed the ball right through to their striker, and with only one man to beat, he calmly slotted it in to make it 1-1.
With five minutes left of the first half Bodmin gained a lucky deflection in the Okehampton box to make it 2-1 at half time.
Okehampton came out in the second half firing and once again began to increase pressure on the Bodmin back line. Despite great efforts from wingers Jack Watson and captain Brett Lawson, Oke were unable to put striker Parsons through again. Midfielders Joff Stephens, Jake Lloyd and man of the match Ross Davidson dominated their opposite numbers, thwarting attacks time and time again.
On the occasions the ball did get through to the Bodmin attackers, Oke defenders Rob Hall and Alex Osman were resolute in their tackles.
Okehampton’s attacks were finally rewarded as Rob Hall placed a wonderful ball through to Parsons, who deflected it past the Bodmin keeper to make it 2-2.
This was a great result for Okehampton although they will feel they deserved a win.
