Teign ladeies’ seconds 4

Okehampton ladies’ seconds 1

AFTER last week’s defeat, Okehampton seconds were primed and ready to go out this week and show they deserve a place in this league.

Teign two were a strong, experienced team but the visitors made them work hard for their goals.

Straight after push back, Oke midfield and forwards Elsa Frangleton, Eleanor Marvin,  Zoe Curtis, Ellie Shayler and Alex Collins fought hard to work the ball up the pitch but Teign’s strong defence won the ball and broke to score.

Oke were now more determined to get that ball and score to equalise. Strong work from wing backs Sophie Mugliston and Emilia Bazeley used the wings to find Zoe Curtis who made a run to the edge of the circle; she then found Alex Collins, who with a lifted ball, found the back of the goal to draw the teams level.

After a quick team chat with captain Anna Luxton and coach Chris Luxton, the seconds went out to start the second half. They saw strong play from Oke with defensive midfielders Rachel Adams and Helen Dalton making some excellent play, space and sending balls up the pitch.

The visitors created many goal scoring opportunities but could not find the back of goal. Crucial saves by Oke’s player of the match goalie Carol Newman kept the score line at 2-1 for as long as possible.

Strong tackles by Debbie Pritchard and saves on the line by Anna Luxton held the home side off. However, the lack of experience within this league saw Teign score another two goals but it did not stop Oke fighting until the end. Okehampton seconds currently sit bottom of the league.
