TEIGN LADIES’ SECONDS 1

ON a beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon Okehampton seconds prepared to take on the third team in the league, Teign 2.

Okehampton started positively working as a team with some neat passing between their players and working hard to regain the ball. Gradually Teign took more control and began to pin Oke into their half of the pitch. Undeterred, the home side kept working hard to get the ball out of their half. At times, Okehampton made use of their wings to get the ball to the other end with some tireless running by Elsa Frangleton, Emma Wiseman and Sophie Tripp. However all this energy led to nothing and Okehampton had to keep battling.

Jane Jones and Louise Weller held the middle of the field while Rachel Adams also made some important tackles to ensure that Teign’s attack was broken down.

If Teign did manage to get a shot on target goalkeeper Ella Kaye made crucial saves to ensure that at half time the game was in dead lock at 0-0.

In the second half Annie Strawbridge continued to work hard, tracking back with her player and running in support in Okehampton attacks. Emilia Bazeley and Debbie Pritchard did some great ‘man to man’ marking to ensure that it was hard work for Teign to break through.

However, Teign were awarded a short corner and it was from this that a rebounded shot sailed through the air before the ball landed in the Okehampton goal to give Teign the lead.

Okehampton continued to work hard and Amy Taylor made some superb probing runs that ensured that Oke maintained some pressure on the Teign defence.

It was from an immaculate tackle by Joey Drake that began the well executed manoeuvre to bring the score level.

Drake won the ball and dribbled it down the left hand side, beating several players on her way; she passed the ball to a perfectly placed Lesley Bingham who pushed the ball at pace into the Teign D, where Sophie Mugglestone connected with the ball to give the Teign keeper no chance.

The game then played out for the last few minutes with some midfield play until the final whistle, leaving the score at 1-1.
