IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league this week, Okehampton C were at home to Tavistock.

This was a really close affair with six of the nine singles going to the deciding fifth leg. Despite Cameron Brooking taking two out of his three singles for the Okehampton side, it was not enough to save his team from an overall 7-3 defeat with Nick Davies scoring a fine maximum for Tavistock and Angharad Beman also taking two. Davis and Beman also combined to take the doubles.

North Wyke were at home to Anchorage A. Enrique Cancer-Berroya was in fine form, taking all three of his singles with his team mate Tom Misselbrook also taking two for the home side. Malcolm Hopkins did well to win two of his singles for Anchorage but could not save his side from an overall 7-3 defeat.

In division two, Okehampton G played host to Horrabridge A. Brendon Seward completed a great maximum for the Horrabridge side with team-mates Crispin Jordan and Gerald Whitehouse also taking two a piece. The young Oke side took some consolation from winning the doubles with an eventual score line of 7-3 to Horrabridge.

The young Okehampton E team were at home to Gunnislake A. Alfie East and Lauren Loosemore both scored fine maximums for the Okehampton side and teamed up to take the doubles for a convincing 8-2 win.

Okehampton F took on Horrabridge B. Connor Madge scored a quality maximum with team-mates Frank Cockburn and Tom Madge also scoring two each for the Okehampton side with Matthew Dowie scoring two to save his Horrabridge team from a whitewash. The Madge brothers teamed up to take the doubles for an overall 8-2 win.

In a much closer affair, Okehampton F also played Horrabridge A team. This time, Crispin Jordan scored a fine maximum for the Horrabridge side with Gill Northey also taking two. Cockburn and the Madge brothers scored four singles between and again took the doubles for an eventual 5-5 draw.

Neither team had to travel too far when Gunnislake A and B teams played each other. The much less experienced B team did well with Ptolemy Beman taking two of his singles and Penny O’Neill taking one. They could not stop the in form Mike Kinger though, who scored a maximum for his team and combined with Jack Flockton to take a tight doubles game for a final 7-3 score line.

Finally, Milton Abbot were at home to Moretonhampstead. Moretonhampstead, with a combined team age of 199 years gave the young Milton Abbot team (156 years younger!) a good run for their money with some close matches but they could not stop Tom Doidge and Tim Westcott continuing their winning form, ending the evening with an 8-2 win for the hosts.
