OKEHAMPTON battled their way to a decent draw in their first pre-season friendly against Sidmouth and Ottery.

The game started at a good tempo with Okehampton having the first chance to score with a short corner. With good work from all over the pitch Okehampton finally broke the deadlock with Mark Parsons drawing the oncoming keeper and slotting the ball into the goal.

Sidmouth and Ottery sparked into life after conceding and started winning numerous short corners. Good defending and some important saves from goalkeeper Hayden Bond repelled Sidmouth and Ottery’s attack until they finally managed to score a short corner from a deflected shot.

Okehampton started the better side in the second half with the whole team working well and creating chances. Both teams started to carve out opportunities but neither side could find the all-important winning goal.

Despite being unable to find a winner, Okehampton can take heart from a good performance with some really good hockey played throughout and will hope to keep that form going into the rest of their pre-season friendlies.

Man of the match went to keeper Hayden Bond. Next week Okehampton are away at Teign.
