Okehampton ladies’ firsts 7

Teign ladies’ seconds 1

DESPITE the miserable weather, both teams were focused from the start. Okehampton built up a lot of pressure early on and this resulted in a goal for Hannah Whiteley after a cross into the back post.

Okehampton continued to pile on the pressure but Teign defended well. Teign got a break and attacked Okehampton with some string passing and quality runs by the attackers. An unfortunate foot in the D secured Teign a short corner. Despite a great dive by Alice Wiseman, they scored to make it 1-1.

Okehampton continued to apply pressure with Sophie Whiteley and Laura Parsons distributing the ball across the pitch. After a series of short sharp passes between Jo Moppett and Kim Davey, Moppett scored. Sophia Marshall showed excellent positioning up front but no more goals resulted as at half time the score was 2-1 to Okehampton.

In the second half, Okehampton continued to play a strong passing game with Nicola Stoneman and Amanda Sim offering good support from defence. Okehampton’s patience paid off and another Jo Moppett goal made the score 3-1.

Oke were able to keep the pressure up which resulted in a short corner, which Moppett scored after dribbling round a defender.

Shortly afterwards, Moppett got the ball again and after an impressive run, scored from the top of the D making the score 5-1.

Teign continued to attack and looked especially threatening on the break, however solid defending under pressure by Nikki Pedrick and Carol Taylor meant that they were unable to score.

Another great run of play resulted in a cross from Jess Medland finding a defender who deflected it into the goal. The final goal of the day went to captain Davey, who chipped it into the top of the net to score a brilliant goal.
