Men's Devon Trophy final
Okehampton 2
Plymouth Marjon B 2
(Marjons B won 5-4 on penalties)
OKEHAMPTON hosted their first ever Devon finals and gave the home advantage to the hosts as they played in the trophy final.
After some opening exchanges Okehampton created an early chance only for Chris Luxton to round the keeper but not be able to keep the ball within his reach. Marjons looked threatening with every attack and soon took a lead when the visitors ran through and slotted the ball home with the defence exposed.
The away side then bagged another quickly after and the game looked to be drifting away from the home side.
Simon Bourne for Oke came back on as a substitute and found some space and fired a ball through the defence and skipper Mark Parsons found the net with a straightforward finish.
With the goal giving them a bit more confidence and belief the hosts started to create a couple more chances before half time. Josh Speak nearly found the goal but for a good save by the sprawling keeper and Parsons fired the rebound inches wide from an acute angel.
The second half saw Marjons create little and anything they did was well saved by keeper Andy Harvey while the exceptional Luke Liversidge, Jonny Aylen and Will Cooper for Oke kept their cool making great tackles in key areas.
The home side equalised with a quarter of an hour to go when Sam Whalley superbly found Luke Miller whose touch took the ball into the bottom corner.
With not long to go Joff Stephens, Whalley and Rob Hall started to dominate the midfield and when Luxton's reverse pass found Parsons he nearly rounded the keeper but for a great stop to deny him.
The game finished in a draw and going straight to penalty strokes Okehampton missed only one and the away side sent five unstoppable strokes past a helpless Harvey.
It was a result which Okehampton did not deserve and a game that was a great spectacle for the club and their supporters.
