The 25th anniversary running of the Grizzly race at Seaton in East Devon, organised by Axe Valley Runners, attracted entries from all over the country and from abroad.

Some experienced Grizzly runners were disappointed that it was much drier underfoot than usual – but the bog was still deep enough for many runners to lose their shoes in the mud which gradually got stickier during the day and a marshal was seen stuck in mud over his knees.

With the route including running on pebbles along two beaches combined with unrelenting steep hills throughout the 20 miles this was a stiff test.

Eight members from Okehampton Running Club took on the challenge — several for the first time.

Chairman Andy Vallance was delighted with his fifth overall place – an excellent run in a time of 2 hours 35 minutes 08 seconds followed closely by two more Grizzly veterans, Gavin Punchard (2.48.33) and Roger Voaden (2.51.33).

Karen Skye was the first lady home for Okehampton in a great time of 3 hrs 23 mins 10 seconds.

Other times: Lucy Skye (3.45.11) Tim Watson (3.51.56) Marilyn Cooper (4.20.40) Darren Duffy (4.30.10).

Nick Secombe and Andy Vernon ran the 'Cub' race - another good result for the club with Nick finishng in fourth place in 1 hr 7 mins 11 secs.
