WITH the Okehampton squash first team without a game it was up to the seconds to continue the strong start to the season by both teams.

The second team enjoyed a fine win against Exeter Golf and Country in division four of the Exeter and Devon Squash League, with all players winning their respective matches and all showing good form.

In the string five match Jack Barkwell overcame a shaky start of losing the first game to recover strongly to take his match 3-1. Jack began to show some of the form of last season.

At string four Chris Elphick again demonstrated his strong hitting to overcome a tricky opponent 3-1. In the string three match the returning Stuart Lord endured a long match, eventually coming through 3-2. Stuart made effective use of his backhand short game to eventually see off his opponent in a tight final match.

At string two Shane Vallance’s movement around the court took him to a 3-1 victory. This meant that the comprehensive victory was completed by Shawn Jones at string one. Shawn recovered losing the first game against a technical opponent, again using his superior movement around the court to also win 3-1.

Therefore a great victory for the seconds has temporarily taken them to the top of the table —- the first time for many seasons - winning 5-0 in matches.

They are without a match this week, but the first team return with a home tie against local rivals Crediton.
