THE final results for this year's Devon Smallbore Bench Rest League 2013-14 are in and Okehampton's Smallbore Club's team of Carol and Dave Saunders, Martin Elliott, Adrian Hasell and Chris Gosnay have done really well in this county competition. The league consists of 10 rounds, shot indoors at the Club's range over the winter, with two cards per round. Okehampton Club won the team event for the most improved, with a 33% improvement during the competition. Members also shot individually, and Carol Saunders, who was in the top division one, came fourth overall, having scored the maximum possible of 200 in round 10; over the winter she had also scored a further 11 'tons' (maximum possible) during the competition so only dropping 19 points over the 20 cards all winter. Carol's husband Dave, also in division one, was ninth, having scored 1,957 over the ten rounds, also including a maximum100 in round 10. In division three, Martin Elliott was fourth and Chris Gosnay was the winner of division five. Chris, who joined the club two years ago and this was his first bench rest season, said he was thrilled to bits to win and is looking forward to moving up the divisions and that he would 'like to welcome people to try this challenging and fantastic sport'. For pistol shooters, OSC held The Pistol Open South West Short Range Championships 2014, drawing many competitors from far afield. This weekend competition, run for the 37th year by Bernard and Yvonne Rendle, had generous cash prizes kindly donated by many local companies. The club had two entrants —Bernard Rendle who won class C, and Richard Miles, in his first competition who was third in class C.
