Sidmouth B 4
Okehampton men's B 5
THE seaside setting of Sidmouth Tennis Club on a bright sunny evening was the picturesque location for Okehampton B latest fixture. At the request of the opposition, a minutes silence in memory of David Carter was held before the start of play reflecting the high esteem in which he was held on the East Devon tennis circuit.
John Jarvis and Martin Pearce curtailed their natural attacking tendencies and cut out errors to overcome the opposition. This tactic proved successful and they won their matches 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1.
Robert Richards played his first match for some time in partnership with David Naylor. They lost their first set 2-6, and came back strongly to take the second set 6-3 but lost the deciding tiebreak 6-10. They found it difficult to get past the strong net play of Sidmouth`s first pair and lost to them in straight sets.
However, the overall 5-4 victory keeps Okehampton in contention in what looks like being a closely fought division eight.
