IT was another busy weekend of races for Okehampton Running Club with a total of 14 members competing in a road race, an off-road race, a fell race and a duathlon.

In Plymouth thousands of runners took part in glorious sunshine at the Plymouth Half Marathon which starts and finishes at the Hoe going out to Saltram Park and back along the harbour and sea front. Charlotte Radnor was the first from ORC to finish with a strong run over the undulating course and Jackie Dawes had a good run in her first half marathon.

ORC times were: Charlotte Radnor 1 hour 46 minutes 28 seconds, John Binns 1.48.12, Anne Binns 1.48.39, Dave Sloccombe 2.00.13, Jackie Dawe 2.00.37, Kerry Morashti 2.04.04, Claire Sprague 2.36.59.

The sun shone in Cornwall too giving good views for the field of nearly 200 runners in the Five Tors race from Minions. This is a challenging eight mile race over difficult moorland terrain made slightly easier with conditions underfoot being unusually dry. Mag Jarvis won the trophy for the FV60-64 category in a time of 1.31.54, followed by Sarah Haigh in 1.49.18 and Rob Cunnington 2.06.34.

Mike Baker, Alan Luffingham, Carol Cornwall, Heidi Wills, Ali Holiday and Katy Speak were among the mud lovers who ran the Honiton Hippo —enjoying a seven mile race over hills, through mud and a couple of rivers – results to follow.

There were grey skies at the Anglian Water Duathlon in Cambridgeshire where Marilyn Cooper completed the 5k run/20k bike/5k run sprint distance in 1.39.40 to qualify for the ETU European Age-Group Championships next year.
