FOUR members of Okehampton Running Club went to Camborne for the Storm Force 10 hosted by Carn Runners – the first race of the Cornish Grand Prix series.
Thankfully the weather was benign with no hint of a storm, the runners starting out in near perfect conditions with only the later finishers getting caught in a heavy shower.
Ten mile races being few and far between, the ORCs took advantage of this reasonably fast course to gain UKA awards for their times. Stuart May was the first ORC home in 1hr 10mins 22 secs (silver UKA award). John Binns – running the distance for the first time in 15 years - completed in 1.20.27 (bronze), Anne Binns 1.24.14 (silver) and Marilyn Cooper 1.24.33 (gold). Marilyn now has all six gold awards for her age group this year — the fourth year in succession that she has achieved this.
The club trophy awarded every three months for effort and improvement this time went to Sarah Bell. Sarah had not run much at all before joining one of ORCs beginners' courses a year ago to improve her fitness and soon came to love running.
She never gives up – keeping going at her own pace, always helping to motivate others in her training group and has competed in several races, including the London 10K last summer.
