THERE was a good turnout of members from Okehampton Running Club at the Ruby Run and Bude Lifeboats races this month. At the Ruby Run Half Marathon Deborah Terry won the ladies' race in an impressive 1 hour.31 minutes 13 seconds – her first race as an ORC member. Her husband John came fifth overall in 1.20.22. A total of 24 members completed this undulating 13.1 mile race between the towns of Holsworthy and Hatherleigh. Andy Humberstone was running in his first half marathon, Jo Binns had a personal best and Mike Westland last ran a half marathon over 28 years ago! Alan Luffingham has probably run this race as many times as anyone else and Deborah Cunningham ran having taken part in the Edinburgh Marathon only 13 days before. The Bude Lifeboat Race attracted a record turnout on a perfect summer evening for the six mile race along cycle tracks and footpaths. Another large contingent from ORC took part with Adrian Kettle first home for ORC in 40.12. Jo Fletcher led the ladies to finish in 47.58.
