THE Age UK 10k in Exeter has quickly grown in popularity and this year saw more than 700 runners complete the fast and flat route which starts from the city centre.
There was a good entry from Okehampton Running Club including several first timers.
Jane Jackson led the ORCs home with a fast run of 47.13. She came second in the FV55 category and Mags Jarvis was second in the FV60 category. Separating these two was Ged Fitzgibbon who finished fourth in the MV65 category. Trudy and Trevor Larkworthy were racing for the first time, and it was Michelle Walker's first 10k race, all three being graduates of the Club's beginners' course last October.
It was good to see former member, Emma Cunnington, who has recently been diagnosed with MS, among the runners accompanied by her husband, Rob.
Times: Jane Jackson 47.13 (second fv55), Ged Fitzgibbon 50.54 (fourth mv65), Mags Jarvis 51.45 (second fv60), Lauren Ausden 58.08, Michelle Walker 59.20, Janet White 1.00.40 (fourth fv65), Trevor Larkworthy 1.00.45, Sarah Bell 1.22.04, Trudy Larkworthy 1.22.04, Emma and Rob Cunnington 31.10.22
There were more runners from ORC at the Tavy 13 half marathon organised by neighbouring club Tavistock AAC. This event was run over a new route attracting nearly 400 entries who enjoyed perfect conditions to run in. Andy Vernon was first back for ORC in 1.30.03 with Mike Baker next in 1.49.51, then Chris Aylen 1.59.05 and Sarah Haigh 2.25.23.
At the Peaky Freaky Challenge in Somerset, Marilyn Cooper took part in her first duathlon over a three leg bike/run route totalling 60k cycling and 14k running completing in 4.03.15 to win the fv60 category.
