THREE Okehampton runners took part in the Great West 5k in Exeter race on Sunday. The two-lap course starts in the centre of the city, just off the High Street and later forms part of the Great West Run half-marathon course.

After a lay-off due to injury, Okehampton's Sue Walker ran well to come second lady overall in a time of 19mins 59secs, also winning FV40 age group prize. Jane Jackson finished in 22mins to take first place in FV55 age group and fifth overall, and Marilyn Cooper finished in 25.56.

After the race the three runners became supporters, staying to cheer on their club-mates Emma Cunnington and Jean-Paul Quertier who were running the half marathon.

The warm sunshine and city streets made it a tough race and Emma was thankful to cross the finish line in 2hrs 14mins 52secs. Her efforts were rewarded though by raising £100 for the Mark Marshall Youth Fund. Jean-Paul completed the race in 1.39.52.
