LAST year Okehampton U12s secured victory in the County wide plate competition at the Devon U12s rugby festival. This year they failed at the final hurdle. Initially drawn in a group with Exeter Saracens and Sidmouth, Okehampton started sluggishly with a 7-7 draw with Exeter Saracens thanks to a quick tap and go try fro Leon Horne who converted his own score. They remained unbeaten after a tough 0-0 draw with Exmouth, but failed to go through as group winners so entered the plate competition for group runners up.
In the three team plate group were the side Oke beat in last years final, Sidmouth. Okehampton played their best rugby of the day, as they moved the ball well to create good tries for Joseph Stratton, Ebby Vallance and Jack Chapman. Leon Horn converting all three in a 21-0 victory.
Against a heavier Crediton side Oke defended manfully to gain the 0-0 draw they required to reach the final. Unfortunately the final saw Oke produced a disappointing performance against a useful Kingsbridge side, and they eventually finished runners up after a 21-0 defeat.
