AT the Okehampton Running Club's annual handicap race, every runner is handicapped using the results from mile time trials which took place earlier in the year. A staggered start with the lowest handicapped runners starting first means that all runners have an equal chance of winning. A good number of members turned out for the 5k race through Abbeyford, the winner's trophy going to Mike Baker, with his son Harry second and Jason Ewing third. Danielle Fulford-Brown was the first lady to finish.

The inaugural Plymouth Armada Half Marathon run by the Armada Athletic Network attracted nearly 300 runners. Starting at the National Trust's Saltram House — a virtually traffic free route took the runners away from the city and through the pretty Plym valley. Marilyn Cooper had a personal best finishing in 1 hour 53 minutes 01 seconds.
