THE 2014 season has been an eventful one for North Tawton Bowling Club and its members. Iris Gill, Margaret Arscot and Nicci Wilkins are bowling for Devon in the national championships in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. The Devon unbadged men's doubles final was an all North Tawton affair with Gordon Denham and Tom Watson taking on Ilyod Reynolds and John Kinsey with the latter won in a close fought contest. In the men's North Devon triples North Tawton B won division six and the club's A side were second in in division three with both teams being promoted. The three teams in the men's over 60s are still playing and the club awaits the final positions in their various leagues. On the social side the new bar has proved a great success and contibuted to the fun day total of £1,400. Club chairman Mike Thwaites congratulated Dave Nicks, John Kinsey and Ilyod Reynolds and all the many helpers who made this possible. The last day of the club's season is President's day on Saturday, September 13. Mr Thwaites told the Times: 'Membership is healthy but we could always accommodate a few more. The proposed new club house has hit a few snags but we are still trying to go forward. ' He thanked all the committee and members who have worked hard together to give the club another memorable season.
