South West two
OPM B 0
Okehampton A 7
DESPITE the weather there was nothing wet about Okehampton's performance at Brickfields in Plymouth on Saturday against Old Plymouth Mannameadians.
A revised formation following two under par games the previous weeks brought a much improved display from the visitors.
Swift passing and slick movement opened up scoring opportunities right from the off. This quick interplay brought almost immediate reward when Oke skipper, Brett Lawson, latched onto a precision pass and slotted into the OPM goal.
The strong Oke midfield made it difficult for the opposition to break out of their own half and a stolen ball brought about the second goal when a darting run from Stuart Jarvis up the right wing saw the ball squeezed in by a well placed Brett Lawson for his second.
With Okehampton dominating in all areas, OPM struggled to gain any real possession and the away side continued to pass and move to great effect. 2-0 soon became 3-0 when Chris Luxton found space in the D and this soon became 4-0 when Luxton got his second.
Good use of the substitutes, Jacob Jones and George Morgan, meant the tempo never slowed with some of the more senior players struggling to keep up with the pace.
The turnaround brought no change of fortune for OPMs as a quick tackle in midfield immediately after the restart saw Jake Lloyd surge through the middle and find Chris Luxton to slot in for his hat-trick and 5-0.
The relentless pressure created by Oke never wavered and saw them first to the ball, strong in the tackle and quick to pass and move.
The remainder of the second half saw much of the same with the Oke defence barely troubled, but when OPM broke through the midfield the backs dealt with the threat easily with Ebby Vallance in goal having to make only one save in the whole game.
Jake Lloyd converted a second half short corner to make 6-0, then on the stroke of full time Simon Bourne deflected a Chris Luxton pass into the net to make 7-0. With no time for a restart the players rushed for the shelter of the changing room finally retreating from the foul weather that had blighted the whole game.
