RELAYS and rides have been the main focus this week for Tavistock Run Project. Thursday, July 13 saw the annual Tavistock Athletic Club relay event held in the Meadows.
It was a bumper turnout with clubs from all around the area turning out in their droves to compete. Tavistock Run Project entered two teams this year.
The first team to compete were the women comprising of Rachael Malthouse, Emma Dooney, Sally Dunn and TRP guest runner Hayley Clarke. They achieved a team combined time of 30.04 and gained a very well earned 7th place VET team and 11th overall.
Following on from their success the men’s races, which included the first leg being led by Ben Neale, handed the baton over lying in first place. The men fought a tough race and held an excellent position throughout the race, eventually finishing in fifth place overall and fourth in the VET category. They accrued a very speedy time of 22:40. The rest of the team comprised of Dan Dooney, Steve Watson and Henry Ware.
On Sunday Emma Dooney continued her success on the bike, participating in a gruelling charity ride. Black clouds with rain were seen heading in every direction, yet only two drops touched them the whole journey.
She achieved 131 miles before retiring due to fog and the night drawing in after cycling for an incredible 15 hours.
Almost £600 has been raised so far, for Brain Tumor Research after a close friend and member of TRP sadly lost her daughter to a brain tumour.
Donations are still coming in but lastly, a super huge thank you to everyone who has supported or donated this event over the past few months.
