THE second Buckland Bounder took place on Saturday. June 10 at the Buckland Monachorum Summer Fair.

This year there were 59 runners, who had to contend with rain and difficult weather conditions over the hilly, multi-terrtain six mile course. They were ably supported by the Rapid Relief Team, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group and Tesco Tavistock.

The winner was William Dax of Tavistock Athletic Club in a time of 40:13, also taking the Drake Manor Shield for the fastest local male. Runner up was Graham Bale of Plymstock Road Runners with a time of 40:27, also taking fastest male over 50. Colin Kirk-Potter of Tamar Trail Runners was third with a time of 45:14, who also won the male over 40 category.

Winning the female over 40 category was Jane Allison of Mud Crew Trail Runners with a time of 46:01. The female over 50 category was won by Sharon Friendship of Stannary Hash with a time of 1:06:26.

The male over 60 category was won by Richard Cole of Drake Hash in 56:37.

Taking the Drake Manor Shield for fastest female local was Samantha Febrey in 57:39.

Runners enjoyed post race massage in the Buckland Chapel from Irek of Equilibrium.

Among the local runners were four members of Bere Alston Trekkers.

Martin Head led the BATs home in a time of 1:00:47, followed by Heather French in 1:12;47, Hilary Head in 1:20:34 (a personal best of over seven minutes) and Fiona Maddock in 1:22:56, who was using the event as a warm up for the South Hams Triathlon.
