Devonport Services U16s 5
Okehampton U16s 15
FROM the kick off Okehampton pinned Devonport in and around their 22 for what seemed an interminable period. Okehampton launched repeated attacks over a sustained 15 minute period using both the backs and the forwards.
The deadlock was broken after 20 minutes, following yet another forward drive with Ben Arnold crashing through some cover tackles to score, some way wide of the posts. Jacob Horn's attempted conversion flew wide.
Okehampton continued to pressurise Devonport. Against the run of play Devonport finally got out of their half only to be met with a fired up Freddie Fishley who stripped the ball from the attacking Devonport ball carrier, flicked the ball back to Noah Nash who then knocked a penetrative kick over the heads of the Devonport attack. The kick was collected by Reece Peacock who muscled his way through the Devonport full back to score the Oaks second try.
Devonport finally got into Okehampton's 22 just before half time. A technical error in the ruck saw a penalty awarded and Devonport, with a quick tap and go, found the Okes disorganised in defence and managed to run in relatively uncontested.
The second half saw Okehampton continue to pile into Devonport, however handling errors repeatedly continued to frustrate the Oaks.
A brilliant 60 metre run from Jake Shinn looked like it might be the catalyst. Frustratingly Devonport's scrambled cover managed to pull him down just short of the line.
Late in the second half Tom Strawbridge linked up with Brandon Horn to put Brandon over for the Okes third try.
This score fired up the lads who were then on the prowl for the fourth try and the additional bonus point.
Okehampton frustratingly ended the match camped on the Devonport try line, trying to batter over for that final score, but to no avail.
