Dawlish ladies 4

Okehampton ladies seconds 1

OKEHAMPTON ladies travelled away to top of the hockey table Dawlish. Earlier in the season Oke's young team succumbed to the experience of Dawlish and were defeated 2-7.

Therefore the visitors were determined to deliver a strong performance to show how they have developed since that game.

The match started with an end to end battle between these two sides. Oke midfield players Viv Weatherington, Ailsa Gibb and Louise Weller applied the pressure on the Dawlish defence.

A well organised defence by Oke saw many chances Dawlish had to score denied. After a scrappy tackle between a Dawlish player and Oke goalkeeper Alice Wiseman the home side went ahead midway through the first half.

However, Okehampton did not relent. Anna Speak and Annebelle Rademaker made tireless efforts to cross the ball to waiting forward Alex Collins and Emma Wiseman to capitalise on; it led to the ball rolling out to Louise whose hit shoehorned the ball into the top right hand corner of the goal, defying the Dawlish's goal keepers stretch.

The second half saw a determined Dawlish, hungry for a win, and within seconds took the goal line to 2-1 and shortly after they made it 3-1. Okehampton continued their efforts and with constant encouragement from their captain kept the possession for majority of the match. Dawlish only capitalised on the counter-attack.

The match ended in a 4-1 defeat but this was a much improved display from the visitors. Okehampton's player of the match was captain Rochelle Hillier.
