Petroc two
Torbay ladies seconds 2
Okehampton ladies seconds 2
THIS final league hockey match for Okehampton ladies' seconds would decide which team came second in the league and Okehampton were determined to win.
The opening minutes showed that both teams were fired up as the play moved end to end with both teams fighting for chances to score.
Viv Weatherington played skilled hockey for Oke and worked hard in the centre to distribute the ball. It was her pass to Alex Collins which was swiftly passed to Rachael Adams, who pushed the ball past the Torbay goalie for Okehampton's first goal.
Okehampton continued to create chances but struggled to look really dangerous despite the drive of the two wings, Emma Wiseman and Sophia Marshall. Captain Rochelle Woollacott with Katie Adams, Anna Luxton, Nicky Pedrick and Charlotte Harper kept out some dangerous attacks by Torbay. In the circle Alice Wiseman easily controlled several strikes on goal, including short corners, and half time arrived with Okehampton 1-0 up.
Player of the match Rachael Adams scored a second goal for Okehampton soon after play started again and the home side looked set to win. Larissa Goodger had a particularly good game in the second half and Okehampton created several chances through tight passing and fast running.
Then Torbay, always dangerous in the centre, broke through and scored their first goal. Okehampton fought back but could not quite get the necessary edge and it was Torbay again who scored.
The last five minutes were intense with both teams determined to score but neither were successful. The game therefore ended with a draw and the season ended with Okehampton in a respectable third place in its league.
The team thank all those who have supported the team over the exciting season which has seen their team mature into a force to be reckoned with.
