Merit two
Honiton seconds 10
Okehampton seconds 48
OKEHAMPTON seconds' run of good form in the league has continued with a comfortable win over bottom of the table Honiton.
The windy conditions played a large role in the match, making for challenging kicking conditions.
In the first half Honiton played with the wind and this proved to be an advantage as they scored two tries against a slow starting Oke defence; the conversion attempts were blown off course by the swirling wind. However, these were Honiton's only points of the match, and Okehampton scored twice before the break with fly half Luke Wonnacott kicking one conversion despite the wind.
The visitors turned on the attack in the second half with the wind behind them, and a combination of forward dominance and creativity from the backs earned a further six tries and three successful conversions from Luke Wonnacott. These including a try from winger Andy Cox on the right after an excellent rucking from the forwards, and a storming 40 metre run on the left wing by tight head prop Steve Gove.
Honiton did not give up, and injuries to their captain and hooker meant they were down to 14 players at the end despite Oke forward Rich Martin stepping forward and playing for the opposition.
Okehampton seconds are away to Torquay thirds on Saturday.
