FOUR intrepid seniors from Tavistock Athletic Club made the trip to King’s Tamerton in north Plymouth on Saturday evening for the annual race named Muskies Madness organised by one of the largest running clubs in the city, Plymouth Musketeers.

The 5.5mile course goes steeply down Weston Mill Hill before heading off road into Ham woods, following the Ham brook and undulating course that returns via Ham Drive and then the mile long steep climb back to the finish.

TAC’s Martin Exley-Deane unwisely chose this as his first run after a two month break from running due to injury. He started gingerly and managed to work his way up to 24th place in the second half of the race. Next home was new club runner Adam Shipton-West who ran in fancy dress (as many do at Muskies Madness). Adam finished a creditable, but very hot, 33rd out of the 200 plus field. Evergreen Pete Bazley romped home in 42nd place to take the veteran 60 category prize win. Kate Rodgers was the fourth TAC home in 88th, missing her category win by just a minute and a half. All four runners enjoyed the hospitality of Musketeers well into Saturday evening.
