NINE doubles tennis teams hit it out on Sunday to claim victory in the annual Shebbear College Generation tennis tournament. In pool one were Henry Cornish and his brother Alexander, Patrick Faulkner and his father Alessandro Aliberti, with teacher Mr Trask and Connor Roberts with Arsen Dzhadrinov. In pool two were head boy Julius Gemmel and Victor Nitsch, Lucy Taylor with teacher Mrs Cardoo, Simon Cornish and his mother, Sam and Annie Westlake and Owen Hendry with teacher Mr Sanders. At eleven years old, Owen was the youngest competitor in the Generation Tournament to date. Henry and Alex Cornish, and Mr Trask and Alessandro Aliberti progressed through to the semi-finals from pool one, along with Sam and Annie Westlake and Victor Nitsch and Julius Gemmel from pool two. During the semi-finals, Victor and Julius defeated Alessandro and Mr Trask 3-2 while Alex and Henry defeated Sam and Annie 3-1. It was certainly a hard-hitting final, with the only difference possibly being the great volleying of former pupil Alexander Cornish which secured a victory for the Cornish family. Henry Cornish retains the title that he won last year with his mother.
