THREE West Devon girls represented the United Kingdom when competing in the amateur Muay Thai Boxing IFMA World Championships in Malaysia earlier this month. The Okehampton based trio of Christi Brereton, Sammy-jo Luxton, 15 and Chantelle Tippett, 12, fought superbly and came back from the event, held on the island of Langkawi, each with silver medals. Christi Brereton, aged 21, competed in the Pro Amateur ladies' U54kg category against 18 other women. She faced four tough opponents beating a Philippino, a Turk before displaying an outstanding performance to overcome an opponent from Thailand. Christi was going for the gold but unfortunately lost out against a Russian. Sammy-jo Luxton, aged 15 from North Tawton, competed in the junior cadets U57kg category and beat a German, showing great technique. She went through to the final and had a tough bout against Australia, just losing out on points. Chantelle fought in the final against a Vietnam opponent in the junior cadet U48kg  category. Chantelle had a tough match but demonstrated a great display of Muay Thai at such a young age, to take silver. Chaos Muay Thai competition training centre are proud of their achievements. The girls thank those who sponsored and donated and made their trip possible — United Charities, The Rotary, the Roundtable, OCRA, Okehampton Lions, Okehampton College, A L Martin and Sons, Vic Royle, and all local businesses, friends and family members that donated towards raffles, and kickathon to help raise the funds.
