Torquay ladies seconds 1
Okehampton ladies seconds 3
ROCHELLE Hillier led Okehampton ladies seconds in their first league game of the season. The first half started evenly with skilful stickwork and intelligent passing from the Oke midfield of Viv Weatherington, Alex Collins and Lottie Rademaker feeding the forwards.
Both sides created chances and Oke successfully defended several short corners with one particularly good save by goalie Alice Wiseman. An excellent strike off one short corner by a Torquay attacker gave the Okehampton defence little chance and put Torquay one goal up. Oke then began to increasingly dominate the game but not the scoreline. At various times Ailsa Gibb, Anna Speak, Emma Wiseman, Rachel Adams and Grace Thorpe were pushing into the circle but that vital equalising goal was not forthcoming. There were scrabbles on the goal line, strikes across the circle and even a ball hitting the post but time ticked by and still Oke had not scored
Sandy Douglas as sweeper repelled several deep attacks but increasingly Oke backs Katie Adams and Rochelle Hillier moved into attack mode, helping Alex Collins to find the space and score the equaliser.
Okehampton maintained their fighting spirit into the last ten minutes. Then Ailsa Gibb, who had an excellent game as marked by winning player of the match, scored the goal which put the visitors ahead.
Now all guns blazing Oke were all over Torquay, who barely ventured beyond their 25 yards. In the last play of the game Viv Weatherington grabbed Okehampton's third goal in what had been a game of great team effort and a well deserved win.
