OKEHAMPTON Rugby Football Club kick-off at 3pm on Saturday its campaign for the 2012-13 season in the Tribute Western Counties League at home against Kingsbridge.
Both teams finished at the top end of the league last season and Kingsbridge were pressing for promotion right up to the last game. Saturday's encounter will be a tough opener for both teams.
The following week Okehampton entertain Torquay, another tough game for so early in the season.
Dave Potter, the club secretary, said: 'New players are always welcome. Training, which has been underway for some weeks now, is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
'The Tribute Western Counties League proved to be a strong league last season and should prove so again, so expect some good rugby. Why not come to the games and see for yourself?
'The pitches are in excellent condition following a Summer of hard work by groundsman Dave Stevens, and despite the heavy rain they look as good as they ever have.'
At its annual meeting held in July, the club said thanks to outgoing president Angela Pengelly, and installed Robert Ewen as the new president for a two year term.
Rob said that he was honoured to take on the role and to have his name recorded alongside those who had done so much for the club in the past. He promised to work had for the club during his term of office.
The club's junior section is holding its annual registration night on tomorrow evening (Friday) at the clubhouse. All junior section players and parents are invited to attend.
It is that time of year when the subscriptions are due for all members of the club.
Unfortunately subscription fees have had to rise this time, but this was unavoidable when trying to deal with the increasing costs of running the club.
The clubhouse has been redecorated during the closed season. A dedicated small group of members got together over a weekend and cleaned and painted the clubhouse throughout.
Dave Potter added: 'Not only does this improve the environment for the club members, but also makes it much more attractive to those looking for somewhere to hold that important event. The club's kitchen was given a top marking by the Environmental Health Officer when he inspected it earlier in the year.
'The club is also installing Wi-Fi and Broadband facilities so that organisations can hold seminars and meetings with access to the internet. Anyone interested in hiring the clubhouse should contact Fiona Martin on 07971 233275.'
The club's web site is also being updated and the new site will be up and running soon now at http://www.okerugby.com">www.okerugby.com.
'We hope that you will support your local team and come to the Oakland's ground to watch some entertaining rugby,' said Dave.
