Elmore seconds 3
South Zeal United 4
SOUTH Zeal came into a third consecutive away game knowing that their run of good results must continue to ensure their top of the table position was maintained.
The game started in a combative manner, with both teams aware that a good result was needed to carry on their good run of form and table positions respectively.
A tough first half was fought, with South Zeal coming closest through Kieran Anderson, who hit the post with a swooping header.
Good defending from man of the match Adam Woolnough and a couple of good saves from stand in keeper Darren Gilbert saw Zeal hold firm. A break away goal after 35 minutes was scored by Harley Cann, who ran from well inside his own half to calmly round the keeper at the other end to make it 1-0 at half time.
The second half started with a close fought contest but it was the home side who made the break through with a mix up in the South Zeal defence and their striker knocking the ball over the heads of two defenders and the keeper to make it all level.
Half way through the second half South Zeal suffered another set back when from a corner one of Elmore's defenders headed in to make it 2 -1 to the home side.
The visitors then put some better passing together and a great ball in from Samual Jones gave Adam Clark a tap in for his sixth goal in six games to make it 2-2.
Yet again the home side came back and made it 3 -2 with just over ten minutes to go. With South Zeal's heads a little down Garry Smith came on; from a quick corner from Sammy Jones to Smith who put in a fierce cross that was met by his son Smith Junior with a great diving header to make it 3-3 in now a quite frantic and intense game.
South Zeal turned on the pressure and it was rewarded with a late penalty that Adam Clark stepped up and netted his 17th of the season and continued his 100% record from the spot to give the visitors a well earned and deserved win.
