IT was a sunny but blustery cold day at the East Cornwall Biathlon held at Liskeard School on Saturday.

Spooners sent a squad of biathletes — Rory Cox, Lamorna Cox and Fynn Baker; Mixed minimus, Holly Cole; mini boy Theo Marshall and senior boy Henry Ware.

The shooting went well for all of Team Spooners with Holly (880) and Henry (880) both attaining best shoots.  Theo also shot a great 800 and best shoot went to Zac Flanagan of the Dulverton with an impressive  940/1000.

Run conditions were fairly testing with soft ground underfoot and a strong head wind.  The biathletes displayed good running maturity when in a pack of 13 and the initial pace was hot.  Fynn forged clear followed by Rory in second place.  Lamorna, who aged 5, came 5th.

The Mixed Minimus heat was a tough one with some really fast boys in this category but Holly atoned well and stuck with them to record a time not too far off the leaders.  Theo and Henry both ran well in small fields.

There was some great determination in the pool with personal bests from Fynn, Lamorna and Theo.

Overall results: Biathlon 1, Fynn Baker (best run), 4, Rory Cox, 5, Lamorna Cox; mixed minimus, 2, Holly Cole (best shoot); mini boys, 4, Theo Marshall (best swim); senior boys, 1, Henry Ware (best shoot, best run and best swim).

Prizes were also awarded for Winter League placings in which Holly was second and Henry won his respective category.
