BERNARD Rendle, treasurer of the Okehampton Smallbore Club, was captain of the England team at the home internationals match at the Scottish meeting, when England won the competition and the Ian Hamilton Trophy this summer.

Following on from the annual dinner at the Okehampton Golf Club, where members enjoyed a fine evening of good food and prize giving after a successful seasons' shooting last winter, this week the Okehampton Smallbore Club its annual meeting. The club is now open for the forthcoming winter season of competitive indoor shooting, teaching, improvement and enjoyment in all the disciplines of prone rifle, pistol, sport rifle and bench rest.

Results for the Exeter and District Summer Leagues are in, and Okehampton members have done well over the summer, shooting 11 rounds at their indoor range. In the prone rifle section there are 13 divisions drawing competitors from as far away as Dorset.

In Division 1, Okehampton's top shooter Paul Batten was second with an impressive average score over the 11 rounds of 98.7 out of 100, which was only 0.6 behind the overall winner. An amazing result.

Division 7 held the club's next winner, Martin Elliott, who shot well to also be second in his division and his wife Amanda won division 8. Amanda was also thrilled to win the ladies' competition which is based on the McOak Handicap system of scoring.

The Elliotts have been shooting for just 18 months and would like to thank Paul Batten, their instructor, and the club for all their encouragement.

In the sport rifle section there are 22 Divisions and Okehampton's Grahem Spier was second in division 4 which he was pleased with; Lawrence Bennie was second in division 5, Matt Urmston was third in division 7, Julian Bond was third in division 10 and a delighted Chris Gosnay won division 13.
