A PUPIL from Okehampton Primary School has proven she is among the best in the country at table tennis after competing at the National Schools Table Tennis Championships.

Emily Haskell, aged ten, earned her place at the event in Doncaster by winning the Devon Schools Championships in February, where, representing Okehampton Primary School, she competed against 22 girls in her age group.

The national event is one of the biggest table tennis events in England, and sees county champions from all over the country competing against each other.

Emily was also asked to join the South West squad and play in the National Regional Squad Championships the following day. In this event Emily was one of two under eleven girls selected to represent the region.

Each player played the top regional players from other regions in England. Battling through some hard fought matches, Emily proved she was worthy of the team by winning four of her five matches.

She trains with the South West squad both in Okehampton and Plymouth, and is their youngest member.
