TAVISTOCK Athletics Club members fared well in the Bere Pen 10K organised by Bere Alston Trekkers on May 1.
Known as the 3 down & 3 up race the route goes for 3 miles from Bere Alston down to Weir Quay before the long tortuous climb back to the finish at Bere Alston Primary School.
Conditions on the day were drizzly and cold but all the runners were greeted with a warm welcome from the marshals out on the course. Tavy AC athletes fared well and picked up several honours.
The race was won overall by Jack Lawson, son of one of the clubs former coaches Carrie Lawson in a quick 36.02. Martin Exley-Deane was 10th overall in 41.52 and picked up first vet 55.
David Twine was the next TAC runner home in 45:39 in 20th overall and the first vet 60. Tracey Oxborough was 30th in 47.52 (2nd Vet 50). Cathy Dunlop had a great run after recent injury to finish in 52.43 (49th overall).
Roger Hewitt was not far behind her in 53.43 (50th overall and a spot prize winner). Kate Rogers in 58th place picked up another individual prize when she won the female vet 55 category.
The Ivybridge 10k is one of the most popular races in the area, with a field of 750 runners taking part on May 7. Exley-Deane was the first of the Tavy AC runners home in 38.40 (26th place) to pick up the V55 1st place.
Next came David Twine in 44:26, 92nd place (2nd V60). Club stalwart Pete Bazley was 131st in 46:24, Dave Chanter nearly broke 50mins with 50.16 (245th place).
