OKEHAMPTON hoc-key ladies’ first team travelled to Falmouth this week for their opening league fixture, facing a team who played in the league above last season when Oke themselves have only just been promoted.
The visitors went out to play a strong opposition, when a goal from Falmouth was soon conceded.
Oke fought back with great passing when Jo Moppet penetrated Falmouth’s defence to strike their first goal. Both teams shared goal for goal, making it 3-3, with all the Oke ones being dribbled in by Jo Moppet.
Falmouth managed to get through Oke defence again to leave the score at 4-3 at half time.
Okehampton went back out with great enthusiasm at the start of the second hald and Hannah Whiteley was on the post to make it 4-4.
Oke kept fighting with clean passing through the middle by Sophie Whiteley and their player of the match Jess Medland but Falmouth were out on top striking their fifth goal. There was no stopping the Falmouth ladies and they went on to score three more goals to make it 8-4.
Full time was nearing but this did not stop Oke when a splendid pass went in to forward player Larrisa Goodjer, who dribbled pass the goaly leaving the final score 8-5 to Falmouth.
This was a great performance by the visitors with a few key players missing against a tough opposition.
