WITH the first team not having a game this week, it was left to Okehampton squash second team to continue their league campaign with a slightly disappointing performance at home to an experienced Dartington 2 side.

At string 5 Dave Harwood competed well against his experienced opponent who always covers the court well but went down 0-3. Chris Elphick again got so close to enjoying the win his general play deserves, but his opponents consistency eventually made the difference in a tight final game, Elphicks losing 2-3.

At string 3 Stuart Lord could not take advantage of a good start and lost a series of tight games to go down 1-3. At string 2 Shane Vallance played poorly, not finding consistent width and length and struggling to combat his opponents short game. Shane also went down 1-3.

Shawn Jones at string 1 played well against a well regarded older player (having just returned from South Africa as the world number 2 in the over-65 age group) and enjoyed some long, lung-busting rallies, often playing his best squash of the season. Eventually Shawn went down 2-3 in a close final game.

Therefore the team could only muster six points at home, losing all ties. The team finishes the half of the season before the Xmas break with a tough away game at Exeter Golf and Country.
