Devon and Exeter seven
Alphington fourth 4
South Zeal Utd 1
SOUTH Zeal went into this away fixture looking to put their last two defeats behind them, with a more clinical and cultured approach.
The game started in a competitive manner, with both teams vying for that vital midfield possession.
South Zeal, however, looked second best and Alphington took the lead after 10 minutes, when a communication error saw the keeper lobbed and Alphington 1-0 up. It was this goal that rallied Zeal and they equalised almost immediately, thanks to visitors' man of the match Adam Clark's 12th goal of a prolific season.
South Zeal would have hoped to now come into the ascendancy, but Alphington were clearly made of strong stuff and took the lead again after 35 minutes, which remained the score until half time.
After some stern half time words, South Zeal piled on the pressure in the second half, with Harley Cann and Samuel Jones going close for the visitors.
However, this forward thinking approach came back to haunt the visitors as Alphington scored two late goals, to put the game beyond the valiant Zeal side.
