OKEHAMPTON LADIES’ SECONDS 3
ON Sunday the Okehampton ladies’ second team travelled to play Torbay in the Devon Plate competition.
Okehampton piled on the pressure from the start with midfielders Amy Taylor and player of the match Annie Strawbridge controlling the middle of the field, gaining possession and distributing the ball.
It was not long into the game before Emma Wiseman at left wing crossed the ball into the Torbay circle; centre forward Anna Crome went for goal but it was Jemima Vereker, in her debut game for the team, who tapped the ball past the goalie to give her team the lead.
Oke kept up the fast tempo of their game pouncing on any loose ball. Anna Crome outwitted the opposition with her speed and skill and was rewarded with a well taken goal to increase the lead to 2-0.
Just before half time Izzie Thomas gained possession with a well timed tackle and then pushed forward beating several Torbay defenders before outwitting the goalie and scoring the third goal.
Torbay were more determined in the second half forcing left half Alice Luke to make several crucial tackles on the dangerous Torbay right wing. The Oke defence of Nicky Pedrick, Carol Taylor and Amanda Sim worked well together to close down the Torbay attacking moves with goalkeeper Jennie Humphrey only having to clear a couple of shots on goal.
Oke were delighted with the result and look forward to the next round of the Devon plate.
