OKEHAMPTON Tennis club ladies’ A team played Dawlish at home in division five of the Exeter and district League.

Jackie Jarvis and Angela Herrod-Taylor for Oke started well and battled for points against the opposing first pairing and eventually took the first set 6-4.

In the second, against a hard hitting opponent they could not maintain pressure and lost 5-7, in the resulting tie break the Okehampton pair dug deep and eventually won 10-6. In their second match Jackie and Angela cruised to victory 6-0, 6-0.

Kath Bolt and Penny Holman played the second couple first and got off to a flying start winning the first set 6-1; in the second they were unable to keep up the pressure and narrowly lost 4-6 but came back strongly in the tie break to win 10-4.

They struggled in their second match and despite getting to deuce several times they were unable to win any games.

However, Oke-hampton were pleased to finish the evening with a 6-4 win overall, which takes them into second place in the league.
