A LITTLE later than usual, and therefore in warm weather rather than the cold wet conditions normally associated with cross country running, the annual Boasley Cross Primary School Small Schools Team cross country event was held on May 22.
The Year 3 and 4 boys went first with Callum Martyn of Halwill School leading the way, helping his team take second place with 336 points and the silver medals.
The hosts, Boasley Cross took the team gold with Fergal Fitzsimmons in third place, Harrison Ruston-Yates in fifth, Wilf Mallinson in sixth and Mackenzie Swift took the team score to 238 points when he came in 21st.
Year 3 and 4 girls followed the boys with Amy Perkins of Bridestowe coming in first, followed by Alice Oldland of Boasley Cross.
The Lewtrenchard team of Mei-Ling Hair (fourth), Bethany Honey (eighth), Jess Kingdon (ninth) and Ruby Wyatt (11th) took the gold medals with the Boasley Cross team of Alice Oldland, Shannon Griffiths, Alexa Trevett and Sienna Harding picking up silver.
The Year 5 and 6 races then took place with gold, silver and bronze medals to be won and the shield for the best overall combined girls and boys team.
Another member of the talented Perkins family, in the form of Thomas, took first place in the boys race but this is a team event so, despite his valuable points, it was the Lew Trenchard boys team of Ben Hunt (third), Josh Crompton (fourth), Jasper McNeile (10th) and Finlay Loud (21st) who took gold, the Northlew boys Rowan O’Connell (third), James Garrett (seventh), Callum Keegan (ninth) and Thomas Wilby (41st) who took silver and Halwill’s Oliver Wonnacott (second), Harrison Seaward (15th), Frankie Petersen (18th) and Matt Luckhurst (30th) went home with bronze medals.
Holly Cole of Lew Trenchard led the Year 5 and 6 girls home and with her team-mates of Daisy Pickbourne (ninth) Izzy McMorrow (10th) and Eli-Mae Harris (29th) picking up the gold medals. The Bridestowe girls Julia Pratt-Reichert (seventh), Alice Pearce (23rd), Georgina Lacey (24th) and Holly Hewitt (26th) took silver and Liberty (third), Nalani (fifth), Frannie (22nd) and Lily (24nd) of Lifton School were awarded bronze.
With both their boys and girls teams winning gold, it was Lew Trenchard who took home the Shield for the best overall school team.
