THERE was a great day of hockey with the OCRA West Devon Quicksticks event, led by Okehampton Hockey Club.

More than 140 children participated with teams from all over the borough from Milton Abbot, Exbourne, Whitchurch, North Tawton, St Peters, Horrabridge, Boasley Cross, St Andrews, Hatherleigh, Bridestowe, South Tawton and Northlew Schools.

The group games were all hard fought with skills developing further as the afternoon went on.

Horrabridge A and B team met in the semi finals with the game so tight that they went to a golden goal in extra time which saw the A team emerge triumphant. In the other semi, St Andrew’s, Buckland Monachorum,  overcame Okehampton by just one goal.

The final was end to end and tight all the way but ended with a triumphant St Andrews 2-1.

Stuart Lord from OCRA said: ’It was great to see so many young people having fun, developing skills and playing hockey, which is a great testimony to what goes on at local clubs and schools.

‘ABig thanks to Okehampton Hockey Club and the young leaders from Okehampton College, who led skills sessions and officiated throughout the event.

‘If anybody would like to find out where they can continue to play hockey. then they can contact OCRA.

‘Well done  to St Andrew’s who go forward to represent West Devon in the Devon finals.
